KEY INFORMATION FOR THE WEEK

STUDENT SUPPORT GROUPS AT WAYI SCHOOL (SSG)

A Student Support Group (SSG) is a partnership between the school, parents/carers, and the student. The group works together to plan and support the student’s educational, health, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing. SSG meetings are held termly when teachers, parents/carers and the student can develop and discuss progress on the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). These are held in weeks 5 and 6 of each term. And can occur in person, on the phone or on Microsoft Teams. It will be assumed that the meeting will occur in person; please notify the classroom teacher if you would like the SSG meeting to occur over the phone or online.

Bookings will be available on Compass from Monday, Week 4. Please log in to Compass and choose a time slot to book a meeting with the teacher. Please get in touch with the school if you have any issues logging into Compass or booking a time for the SSG.

Parent parking is available on Aitkin Boulevard. Please enter the school via the Durang (administration building).

PREMIER ‘S READING CHALLENGE

We’re Excited to Join the 2025 Premier’s Reading Challenge!

Our school is thrilled to be part of this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge—a fantastic initiative that encourages students to foster a lifelong love of reading. Get ready to dive into exciting books and unlock new adventures through the power of stories!

Further information and login details will be shared via Seesaw messages this week, including how to participate and track reading progress. Stay tuned and happy reading!

CHANGE TO SEESAW MESSAGES

Please note a slight change to communications from your child’s classroom teacher via Seesaw. Teachers will now have the option to send announcements to all families in their class with a general update about the day. Parents/Carers are unable to reply to any announcements, but your private conversation thread with classroom teachers will still be available. Teachers will continue to use these to communicate any personal information that is specific to your student. We encourage parents/ carers to ask clarifying questions and communicate any concerns or updates through your private conversation.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE

Regular and consistent school attendance is essential for our students. Attending each day supports the development of routines and structure, as well as the building of strong relationships.
We recognise when children are unwell, they cannot perform at their best and need to recover at home until well enough to return to the learning environment. If your child is unwell, or unable to attend school for another reason, such as a medical appointment, please ensure you notify Wayi School as soon as possible. Absence notifications can be made to the school in person, via phone or Compass.
Please note, if your child is going to be absent for an extended period (more than 3 consecutive school days), please email our school email (wayi.school@education.vic.gov.au); this includes family vacations. The prior notification will allow us to arrange appropriate supports to help maintain your child’s educational needs during their absence.
