KEY INFORMATION FOR THE WEEK

BULLYING NO WAY: NATIONAL WEEK OF ACTION 12-16 AUGUST

Wayi School is participating in the Bullying No Way: National week of action – 12 to 16 August 2024.
By working collaboratively within our community, we can collectively help reduce bullying.
Parents and carers play an important role in helping your child understand bullying and know how to respond to it.
If your child tells you about things at school, or you observe something in public that involves conflict or bullying, take the opportunity to talk about what bullying is. You can learn more about what defines bullying at bullyingnoway.gov.au
Questions you could ask:
*What do you think bullying is?
*Have you seen it? How did you feel?
*Have you felt scared at school because of bullying?
*As well as me, who are the other adults you would talk to when it comes to things like bullying?
*Have your or your friends left other kids out on purpose? Do you think that was bullying? Why or why not?
*Have you ever tried to help someone who is being bullied? What happened? What would you do if it happens again?
Remind your child that bullying is never okay and discuss how they can respond safely if they experience or witness it.
Encourage them to seek help from a trusted adult and keep seeking support if needed.
By prompting open communication, we empower children to stand up against bullying and create a safer environment where everyone can feel that they belong.

‘LATTE WITH LEANNE’ COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS – THURSDAY AUGUST 22ND

All Wayi School community members are invited to have a ‘Latte with Leanne’ at Wayi School from 10:00am – 11:00am on Thursday the 22nd of August.
Our special guest attendee for August 22nd is Teagan Cullen, Wayi School’s Speech Pathology Leader. If you would like to attend, press the link below to RSVP.
‘Latte with Leanne’ Community Connections is a casual morning tea, aimed to build and strengthen our connections with our school community – depending on your strengths, availability, and motivation, the morning could involve:
– General conversation with other parents/carers/guardians (for those of you who just want to socialise and get to know other Wayi families)
– Resourcing support (for those of you who like to socialise but keep busy at the same time) ‎
We hope to see you there!

PHOTOGRAPHING, FILMING AND RECORDING CONSENT

During the school year, there are many occasions and events where staff may photograph, film or record students participating in school activities and events. We do this for many reasons including to celebrate student participation and achievement, showcase particular learning programs, document a student’s learning journey/camps/excursions/sports events etc, and communicate with our parents and school community in newsletters.

Consent only needs to be given at the beginning of the student’s time at Wayi School. The school will provide annual reminders to parents about our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy. To review the most recent Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy please visit the Wayi School Website.

Please log in to Compass and give consent through the Insights platform. See attached link if you need instructions on how to access Insights through Compass.
