NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK 2024: SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY

This week is National Volunteer Week 2024, and this year’s theme is Something for Everyone. It recognises the diverse passions and talents everyone brings to the act of volunteering.
We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated volunteers for their ongoing support and unwavering commitment. Your generous contributions of time, effort, hard work and selflessness do not go unnoticed, and we deeply appreciate everything you do.
We are so lucky to have such an amazing community supporting us every step of the way.

PHOTO RETAKE DAY – TUESDAY MAY 21ST

National Photography will be returning to Wayi School tomorrow, Tuesday the 21st of May to take school photos of any students who were absent on Wednesday the 1st of May.
Photos will be taken between 08:30am and 10:30am.

 

‘LATTE WITH LEANNE’ COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS – THURSDAY MAY 23RD

All Wayi School community members are invited to have a ‘Latte with Leanne’ at Wayi School from 10:00am – 11:00am on Thursday the 23rd of May.

‘Latte with Leanne’ Community Connections is a casual morning tea, aimed to build and strengthen our connections with our school community – depending on your strengths, availability, and motivation, the morning could involve:
‎‎
– General conversation with other parents/carers/guardians (for those of you who just want to socialise and get to know other Wayi families)
– Strategising and planning fundraising events for our school (for those of you who like to get busy and active and have some spare time to raise some $$$)
– Resourcing support (for those of you who like to socialise but keep busy at the same time)

RUGBY FRIDAYS

Under the grant received from Sporting Schools, students will now participate in a 30-minute session every Friday with Rugby Victoria coaches starting this week.
‎‎
Students in Rooms 1-10 will participate in weeks 5 & 6.
Students in Rooms 11-22 will participate in weeks 7 & 8

Parents will be informed of their child’s scheduled time by their classroom teachers via SeeSaw Messages.
‎ ‎
Please ensure students come to school with their jacket/jumper, water bottle, and wearing their runners.

Performance: With hands flat, fingers together and pointing upwards and palms facing backwards over shoulders; flap hands backwards and forwards vigorously three or more times.

 

VICTORIAN PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Wayi School is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)

a modern user-friendly interface

rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved

the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 6 September 2024.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
