OCCUPATION THERAPY WEEK

It’s Occupational Therapy Week! Let’s give a huge shoutout to our Wayi occupational therapists (OTs)! 🙌📚

From helping students improve motor skills for handwriting, to supporting sensory needs, OTs empower students to achieve their full potential, inside and outside the classroom. They collaborate with teachers and staff, as well as liaising with external therapists, providing strategies to create a more inclusive, supportive learning environment.

Thank you, OTs, for making a difference in students’ lives every day and helping schools become a place where EVERYONE can succeed!

HALLOWEEN DRESS UP DAY – THURSDAY 31ST OCOTBER

Halloween dress up is happening on Thursday, 31st October!

Students are encouraged to come dress in their favourite spooky characters. Please note that students are still required to be SunSmart, with appropriate hat for outside play and enclosed shoes.

* Please note, the wearing of Halloween themed clothing is optional, so families are asked to provide alternate clothing for your child in case they do not wish to remain in this clothing all day or want to change into their sportswear later in the day. *

STUDENT SUPPORT GROUPS AT WAYI SCHOOL

A Student Support Group (SSG) is a partnership between the school, parents/guardians, and student. The group works together to plan and support the student’s educational, health, social, cultural and emotional well-being. SSG meetings are held termly in week 5 and week 6, and allow teachers, parents/carers and the student an opportunity to discuss your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). They may occur in person, on the phone or on Microsoft Teams. It will be assumed that the meeting will take place in person, please notify the classroom teacher if you would like the SSG meeting to occur over the phone or via Microsoft Teams.
Bookings will be available on Compass from 28/10/24. Please log in to Compass and choose a time slot to book a meeting time with the teacher. Please contact the school if you have any issues logging into Compass or booking a time for the SSG.
Parent parking is available on Aitkin Boulevard, please enter the school via the Darrang (administration building).

STUDENT ATTENDANCE

Regular and consistent school attendance is essential for our students. Attending each day supports the development of routines and structure, as well as the building of strong relationships.

We recognise when children are unwell, they cannot perform at their best and need to recover at home until well enough to return to the learning environment. If your child is unwell, or unable to attend school for another reason, such as a medical appointment, please ensure you notify Wayi School as soon as possible. Absence notifications can be made to the school in person, via phone or Compass.

Please note, if your child is going to be absent for an extended period (more than 3 consecutive school days), please notify Wayi School Principal, Leanne Sinnadurai; this includes family vacations. The prior notification will allow us to arrange appropriate supports to help maintain your child’s educational needs during their absence.
