100 DAYS OF PREP – WEDNESDAY JULY 24TH

On Wednesday the 24th of July, our amazing prep students reached a monumental milestone – 100 Days of School!
This incredible journey has been filled with growth, learning, and countless achievements. To honour this significant occasion, our preps had a celebration day filled with fun activities:
👵👴 Stepping into the Future: Students dressed up as 100-year-olds! How awesome do their costumes look!
🎨📚 Arts and Crafts: Students created special photo collages and books to capture memories of the first 100 days of Prep.
🎉🍰 Party Time: Students and staff had an afternoon party with photo prompts to celebrate and capture this special day!
📖✨ Read-Aloud Picture Books: Sharing delightful stories to mark this milestone.
We are so proud of you prep students, and we hope you felt extra special on Wednesday!

CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING AT WAYI SCHOOL – INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES AND SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Wayi School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.

Our child safety framework (https://wayischool.vic.edu.au/our-school/documents-policies-reports/) explains how we support and maintain child safety and wellbeing at Wayi School. It includes our:

  • Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
  • Child Safety Reporting and Responding Obligations Procedures, and
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours for all staff and volunteers at our school.

Our students and families are important partners in providing a child safe environment. These regular newsletter reminders are one of the ways we ensure our school community is aware of:

  • our commitment to child safety, and
  • how to provide feedback or raise child safety concerns.

If you have any concerns about child safety at any time, please contact Wayi School at 73006600. Any child safety complaints or concerns are treated seriously. For more information about our school’s complaints process, see our Complaints Policy (https://wayischool.vic.edu.au/our-school/documents-policies-reports/

We also welcome your ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing. If you have any suggestions or comments, please contact Wayi School on 7300 6600 or at wayi.school@education.vic.gov.au

PHOTOGRAPHING, FILMING AND RECORDING CONSENT

During the school year, there are many occasions and events where staff may photograph, film or record students participating in school activities and events. We do this for many reasons including to celebrate student participation and achievement, showcase particular learning programs, document a student’s learning journey/camps/excursions/sports events etc, and communicate with our parents and school community in newsletters.

Consent only needs to be given at the beginning of the student’s time at Wayi School. The school will provide annual reminders to parents about our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy. To review the most recent Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy please visit the Wayi School Website.

Please log in to Compass and give consent through the Insights platform. See attached link if you need instructions on how to access Insights through Compass.

INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLANS (IEP)

IEP will be shared with families in week 3 on Friday via Compass.
Please login to Compass to view your child’s updated IEP for Term 3, please see the instructions attached. Please note that IEP access for parents is turned off at the beginning of week 6 next term, so teachers can update student IEP goals. Access will be turned back on again at the end of week 9.
Wayi School follows continuous reporting instead of traditional reporting. Continuous reporting (also known as progressive/ongoing feedback) is the continuous sharing of assessment information with parents and carers throughout the year. Wayi School has adopted Continuous reporting instead of the traditional semester reporting. The main benefit of this model is that students and parents receive feedback in a ‘timely’ manner about how the child is progressing. Please view Seesaw in conjunction with the IEP to view your child’s progress with their IEP goals throughout the year. Please see the attachment for more information.

STUDENT SUPPORT GROUPS (SSG)

A Student Support Group (SSG) is a partnership between the school, parents/guardians, and student. The group works together to plan and support the student’s educational, health, social, cultural and emotional well-being. SSG meetings are held termly in week 5 and week 6, and allow teachers, parents/carers and the student an opportunity to discuss your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). They may occur in person, on the phone or on Microsoft Teams. It will be assumed that the meeting will take place in person, please notify the classroom teacher if you would like the SSG meeting to occur over the phone or via Microsoft Teams.
Bookings will be available on Compass from 5/8/24. Please log in to Compass and choose a time slot to book a meeting time with the teacher. Please contact the school if you have any issues logging into Compass or booking a time for the SSG.
Parent parking is available on Aitkin Boulevard, please enter the school via the Darrang (administration building).
