SWPBS CELEBRATION DAY – HERO DAY

This Tuesday 15th September, Wayi School will be celebrating our Term 3 School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SW-PBS) Celebration Day with a Hero Day!

This special day recognises and rewards the positive efforts students have made throughout the term in demonstrating our school values of Voice, Choice and Independence.

Students and staff are encouraged to come to school dressed up as their hero. It could be their favourite superhero, sports star, firefighter, legend or anyone who inspires them!

Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to enjoy fun-filled activities with their peers as we celebrate another successful term together.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the details of the day further, please feel free to contact the school on 7300 6600.

*Please note, the wearing of a costume is optional. Families are asked to provide alternate clothing for their child if they do not wish to remain in costume all day or would like the option to change during the day.

‎LAST DAY OF TERM 3 – FRIDAY 18 SEPTEMBER

The last day of term 3 is this Friday the 18th of September.

Students will finish at the usual time (2:30pm-3:00pm). If you wish to collect your child before then, please notify their classroom teacher via Seesaw Messages.

COMPLETE THE ANNUAL PARENT/CARER/GUARDIAN OPINION SURVEY

At Wayi School, we believe our families are an important part of our school community, and your feedback helps us grow, reflect and improve.

We are inviting all parents, caregivers and guardians to take part in the 2026 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey. The survey provides an opportunity to share your experiences and perspectives about Wayi School and helps us better understand what is working well and where we can continue to improve.

The survey seeks feedback on:

– School climate – how welcoming, safe and supportive our school feels

– Community engagement in learning – how families and the school work together to support learning

– Teaching practices for student engagement and outcomes– how our teaching supports students to engage, learn and achieve

– Attitudes towards school attendance – perspectives on the importance of regular school attendance

Why take part?

– It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

– The survey is open from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

– It can be completed online using a computer, tablet or smartphone.

– It is available in English and 10 additional languages.

ACTION REQUIRED: UPDATED PHOTO PERMISSION FORM

Following our recent communication about changes to how identifiable student photos are shared, our Photo Consent Insight has now been updated.

As part of this update, all previous Seesaw permission responses have been reset. This means that all families must complete the Seesaw section of the Photo Consent Insight again, even if they have previously submitted their preferences.

The updated options are:

– Yes – Family Only: Photos and videos will only be shared directly with your family through Seesaw.

– Yes – Family and Whole School: Photos and videos will be shared directly with your family. Photos from whole-school events, activities and celebrations may also occasionally be shared through the Whole School Announcements thread on Seesaw.

– No: Photos and videos will not be shared through Seesaw.

To update your response, please access the Photo Consent Insight through Compass. A step-by-step guide is attached to assist you.

When completing the form, please ensure you also update the date at the bottom of the form to reflect your new permission selection.

TERM 4 CLASSROOM INFORMATION SESSION

Our term 4 classroom information session will be held on Wednesday October 14th (week 2) starting promptly at 4pm and concluding at 4.30pm. Please note that this session is for parents and carers only (no students). Unfortunately, we are unable to supervise students during this time, so we kindly ask that students do not attend.

The focus for our term 4 session will be Student Transitions for 2027.

We understand that arranging supervision for students can be challenging. To support participation families will also have the option to join the session online via Microsoft Teams.

We look forward to seeing you online or in person for this session.

ROOM 5 & 6

Continuous Reporting Focus – Math (Statistics and Probability)

Room 5

As part of Wayi School’s Continuous Reporting Schedule, Room 5 has been focusing on Mathematics, with an emphasis on Statistics and Probability, throughout the semester. Our students have engaged in a variety of practical and meaningful learning experiences designed to build their understanding of collecting, organising, representing and interpreting data.

Throughout the semester, students have been learning to make choices, collect information, count, sort, compare and represent data. Learning experiences have been carefully adapted to meet individual learning and communication needs, allowing students to participate through gestures, visuals, objects, verbal responses and other forms of communication.

Students explored familiar and engaging topics, including pizza preferences. Each student made an individual choice by selecting a happy face for “Yes” or a sad face for “No” to show whether they liked pizza. With support, students placed their responses onto a class display, creating a visual representation of our collected data. This provided opportunities to practise making choices, communicating preferences and actively participating in data collection.

Students also explored three different food choices, indicating their preferences using thumbs up or thumbs down. Their individual responses were brought together to create our Class Data Showcase, where students explored the results and compared the different choices made by the class.

Through these hands-on experiences, students have developed their early statistical understanding while strengthening their counting, communication, decision-making and mathematical thinking skills. We are proud of the enthusiasm, confidence and participation our students have demonstrated throughout their learning this semester.

Room 6

In Room 6, we have been having lots of fun learning about Statistics through something everyone can relate to — food! 🍎🍌🥨

The students have been exploring the concepts of “Yes” and “No” and “Like” and “Dislike” by looking at different food items and sharing their preferences. Using Yes and No visual supports, students are able to communicate whether they like or dislike each food.

We record everyone’s responses on the whiteboard next to their names and then work together to find out how many students said “Yes” and how many said “No.” This gives the students a clear and meaningful visual representation of our class data.

It has been wonderful to see the students becoming more confident in making choices, expressing their preferences and answering questions using their visuals. Some students are also beginning to join in with counting the responses, making connections between numbers and the information we have collected.

Through these fun, hands-on experiences, Room 6 is developing early skills in communication, counting, making choices and understanding data — all while exploring some delicious food!
