2027 STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC) NOMINATIONS OPEN

We are excited to share that nominations are now open for our 2027 School Representative Council.

The SRC provides students with an opportunity to have their voices heard, share ideas, contribute to school improvement and take an active role in shaping our school community. It supports students to develop leadership skills, build confidence, work collaboratively and learn how to represent the views and interests of others.

At Wayi, we value Voice, Choice and Independence. The SRC reflects these values by empowering students to express their ideas, make meaningful choices and take greater responsibility for contributing to our school community. We believe every student deserves the opportunity to participate, grow and demonstrate their capabilities, regardless of their communication style, learning needs or level of independence.

Our SRC nomination forms have been adapted to include visual supports, allowing students to nominate themselves in ways that best suit their individual communication and learning needs.

We want all students to have the opportunity to explore leadership, build self-confidence and experience the pride of having their ideas valued. By making the nomination process accessible, we are putting our Wayi values into action and ensuring that student voice is at the heart of our decision-making.

How does the SRC election process work?

· Nominations open: Students can nominate themselves for the 2027 SRC using the nomination forms. These nomination forms will be provided by the classroom teacher.

· Wednesday 18 November: Nominations close.

· Monday 23 November: Voting opens (if required) – If the number of nominations exceeds the available SRC positions, students will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred representatives.

· Thursday 26th November: Voting closes.

· Friday 27 November: Families will be notified if their child has been selected as a 2027 SRC representative.

· Week 9 Assembly: Our elected 2027 SRC members will be formally recognised and presented with their SRC badges at the assembly.

We look forward to seeing our students take on this exciting opportunity. We encourage families to chat with their children about the SRC and support them to consider nominating themselves.

OUR NEW PHYSIOTHERAPY PARTNERSHIP

Wayi School is pleased to welcome Inspire Physiotherapy, a local physiotherapy service that will be working with our school one day each week.

Working within our school therapy model, the physiotherapist will collaborate with staff to build their knowledge, skills and confidence in supporting students’ movement, participation and independence. This may include practical strategies to help students access learning activities, move around the school environment and participate more fully in everyday school routines.

This collaborative approach will help staff embed strategies into the school day, supporting students to engage in learning and develop their independence.

Please note that this service supports our school-based approach and does not replace private physiotherapy services or NDIS-funded supports that students may already receive.

BASKETBALL PROGRAM – WEEK 6

We are excited to welcome back Craigieburn Eagles Basketball in Week 6 for our final Sporting Schools event of the year.

Having worked with the Craigieburn Eagles before, we know students always enjoy their clinics. All students will take part in a 30-minute basketball session, where they will practise and build on their basketball skills in a fun and supportive environment.

It will be a great way for students to stay active, work together and enjoy the final Sporting Schools event for the year.

Please make sure students bring their water bottles on the day.

HEALTH UPDATE: RUBELLA AWARENESS

We are sharing advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer about rubella (German measles). There is currently no identified concern at Wayi School. This information is being shared as a proactive measure to keep families informed.

From 28 October 2026, rubella and congenital rubella became urgent notifiable conditions in Victoria, requiring doctors and pathology services to report suspected or confirmed cases immediately.

Rubella is rare in Australia and usually causes mild illness, but it can have serious consequences during pregnancy. Families are encouraged to check that vaccinations are up to date and speak with their GP about any concerns. Anyone who is pregnant and may have been exposed to rubella should seek urgent medical advice.
