100 DAYS OF PREP – 100 DAYS OF VOICE, CHOICE AND INDEPENDENCE – WEDNESDAY 22 JULY
On Wednesday, our Prep students celebrated an incredible milestone – 100 Days of Prep! 💚
‎
The day was filled with fun as students dressed up as 100-year-olds, enjoyed creative classroom activities and celebrated all they have achieved throughout their first 100 days at school.
‎
As part of the celebration, we reflected on 100 Days of Voice, Choice & Independence, the values that are at the heart of everything we do at Wayi School. Over the past 100 days, our Prep students have each grown in their own unique way, finding their voice, making meaningful choices, and building independence every step of the way.
‎
We are so proud of everything our Prep students have accomplished and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

MORNING DROP OFF REMINDER

a friendly reminder that the school drop-off gate will be closed promptly at 9:00 am each morning.
‎
If you arrive after 9:00 am, please bring your child to the Administration Building, where they can be signed in before heading to class.
‎
Closing the gate at 9:00 am helps ensure that all educators are in their classrooms and ready to commence teaching and learning promptly at the start of the school day.
‎
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us create a calm, safe, and settled start to each day for all students.

VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM – WEEK 3 (ROOMS 19-26 ONLY)

We’re excited to be welcoming volleyball to our school from 27–31 July as part of the Sporting Schools program.

Sporting Schools allows students to experience different sports in a fun, supportive environment, encouraging them to get active, build confidence, learn new skills and, most importantly, enjoy participating.

Throughout the week, students in Rooms 19–26 will take part in volleyball sessions with experienced coaches. Whether they’re picking up a volleyball for the first time or building on skills they already have, the focus will be on having a go, working together and celebrating each student’s successes.

We’re looking forward to seeing our students embrace this exciting opportunity and enjoy a wonderful week of movement, learning and fun.

SPECIAL LUNCH ORDER DAY – NEXT FRIDAY 31ST JULY

Next Friday, 31st July, is our Special Lunch Order Day! For just $6, students can enjoy a delicious lunch deal that includes:

 🍕Pizza – Margherita or Ham and Cheese option

🍩 Cinnamon Donut

Don’t miss out on this tasty treat! Payments are due by Thursday 30th July via Compass Events.

SCHOOL COUNCIL COMMUNITY MEMBER VACANCY

Wayi School currently has a Community Member vacancy on the School Council. School Council plays an important role in the governance of our school, and no prior experience is required — there will be opportunities to learn in the role. This is a voluntary position.​

To be eligible, nominees must:

Be aged 18 years or over

Not be a parent or guardian of a current Wayi School student

Not be employed by the Department of Education​

About the Role:

Meetings are generally held twice a term on Wednesdays in Weeks 3 and 7, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, either at Wayi School or via Webex.

The successful nominee will serve for the remainder of the current term of office, ending March 2028.

We welcome expressions of interest from members of our broader school community, such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends, local community members and others who have an interest in supporting Wayi School and its students.​

If you know someone who may be interested in this opportunity, please encourage them to submit an Expression of Interest of no more than 50 words outlining why they would like to be part of the Wayi School Council. Expressions of Interest should be emailed to wayi.school@education.vic.gov.au.

WAYI AFTERNOON BUS LOOP PROCEDURES

At Wayi School, we endeavour to keep our students, staff, and families safe in the Bus Loop.

To support this, we’ve developed a short video to help families understand our pick-up and drop-off procedures.

We have created a step-by-step guide explaining how the Bus Loop operates, including designated waiting areas, traffic flow, and important safety expectations.

We encourage all families to take a few minutes to watch the video and follow these procedures to help ensure a safe, efficient, and positive experience for everyone using the Bus Loop.

NATIONAL TEST ALERT

What to expect?
 
A single Critical AusAlert test will be sent to every mobile device in Australia. This includes most phones, and some smart watches and tablets. Everyone with a compatible phone or other device in Australia can expect to receive the alert.
Devices will vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds.
An AusAlert message will appear on device screens. It will clearly say it is a
Test.
When is it?
27th July at 2:00pm
How to opt out?
While you can’t opt out of the test, you can put your phone on Airplane mode or turn the phone off for an hour.
We would recommend turning the phone off at 1:50pm until 2:15pm as advised by the website.

If receiving an AusAlert test message will disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location and leave them off for at least one hour.

ROOMS 1 & 2

Continuous Reporting Focus – English

Room 1

This term in Room 1, we are building our literacy skills through a range of engaging activities. Students are learning letter sounds through fun phonics songs, developing their fine motor skills with mark making and tracing, and practising correct letter formation during handwriting sessions.

We are also exploring functional literacy in our phonics books, helping students make meaningful connections between letters, sounds and everyday print. During shared reading, we have been enjoying the story Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas, using it to develop listening, comprehension, vocabulary and a love of reading.

Room 2

This term in Room 2, we have begun our shared reading sessions using The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s Wild Animal Hide-and-Seek: A Finger Trail Lift-the-Flap Book through the ALD (Assisted Language Displays) approach.
‎
As we explore the story together, students are building their vocabulary, developing their communication skills, and enjoying interactive discussions about the animals and their habitats. We are also revisiting the SATPIN phonics sounds (s, a, t, p, i, n) to strengthen letter-sound knowledge and support early reading and writing skills.
‎
We look forward to continuing to build students’ confidence and enthusiasm for reading throughout the term!
