CELEBRATING CULTURAL DIVERSITY WEEK 2026

Wayi School will be celebrating Cultural Diversity Week from 23–29 March 2026. This special week is celebrated across Victoria and recognises the many cultures, languages and traditions that make our communities vibrant and unique.

The 2026 theme, “Culture Connects Us All,” highlights how sharing our stories, traditions and experiences helps build understanding, belonging and connection within our community. During the week, students will participate in a range of activities that explore different cultures and celebrate the diversity within our school.

We look forward to celebrating the cultures that make our community so special!

BASKETBALL BAN AT WAYI

Thank you to families who have shared feedback regarding the recent changes to basketball at school. We understand that for many students, basketball is much more than a game — it supports regulation, focus, connection and overall wellbeing. Physical activity plays an important role in learning readiness and emotional balance, and we value the positive impact it has for our students.

Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff. The recent changes were made in response to specific safety concerns and were not made lightly.

To continue supporting students who benefit from basketball, we are implementing the following changes:

Small supervised basketball sessions with one teacher and one shared school-provided ball

– Structured play with clear expectations and adult support to promote safety and positive regulation

– Access to alternative structured physical activities to support regulation and engagement

We are committed to working collaboratively with families to ensure students’ wellbeing and engagement needs are supported while maintaining a safe environment for everyone. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss these arrangements further.

ROOMS 3 & 4

Continuous Reporting Focus – Math (number)

Room 3

In Room 3, students have been exploring numbers 1–10 during our Maths lessons through a variety of engaging songs, stories and sensory activities. Favourite songs such as “5 Little Frogs” and “10 in the Bed,” along with the story “10 Little Dinosaurs,” have helped bring our learning to life. Through these fun and interactive experiences, students are beginning to develop early number skills, including counting and understanding one-to-one correspondence. Using concrete materials, movement and sensory elements supports engagement and allows our learners to actively participate in their learning.

Room 4

Our students in Room 4 have been exploring numbers through fun, hands-on activities. By using games, counting objects, and interactive learning tools, the children are developing their understanding of numbers in an engaging and meaningful way. These activities help build strong early numeracy skills while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and a love for learning.
